AM Training - Training Facilities

Since its inception in 1998 AM Training Hebrides has provided high quality professional training programmes for the Western Isles construction industry and its ancillaries. We are a fully autonomous subsidiary of the long established locally based building supplies company of Angus Maciver Ltd.

 

We are the only accredited plant construction training provider in the Hebrides, and only one of the very few providers located outwith Scotland's Central Belt. Our unique training centre comprises two sites based on the outskirts of Stornoway. One is a variable terrain area with a large classroom facility and the other is a separate working quarry facility which is ideally suited to training operatives on the largest types of construction plant and equipment. Both have an array of purpose built outdoor facilities to support the range of construction, utilities and plant training that we provide. We also have considerable training expertise in the marine environment and its associated industries.

Both of our training facilities contain a wide variety of terrains, slopes, and obstacles for training and assessment purposes. Due to the stringent testing requirements of the various awarding bodies for plant operator qualifications we believe that our sites exceed the specifications required to undertake 'real time' testing in all of the practical assessments. For this reason we have spent considerable time and resources into developing our plant training areas to meet these test requirements. This ensures that a thorough, and fair, practical assessment is conducted in an environment that is free from distractions, and workplace pressures, to give candidates the best opportunity to successfully complete their assessments. We can also provide on-site training at a client's own facility where appropriate.

 

Our classroom facility, which is also available for external hire, is a five minute drive from Stornoway's town centre and it is fully equipped to comfortably house up to twenty delegates. Our administrative function is located at our parent company's office at 2a Rigs Road, Stornoway.

Our training function is overseen by Norman Maciver who is a fully accredited trainer/tester, a qualified civil engineer, and a director of Angus Maciver Ltd. All of our trainers, testers, assessors, and internal verifiers are fully accredited.
